Pilate is being forced to declare judgment on Jesus by the angry crowd of Jews forming at his doorstep. They wanted Jesus crucified because He was the King of the Jews by their own declaration, so they could crucify Him. Jesus’ kingship had two realities: the temporal and the eternal. His kingship on earth from the time He was declared King by Pilate to the time He died on the cross is estimated to be around three hours. Jesus was declared the King of the Jews by Pilate at the 6th hour (12pm) and died on the cross around the 9th hour (3pm). Jesus has the shortest recorded kingship in all of the Bible. However, Jesus’ fleeting temporal kingship on earth is the humble key to His everlasting kingship that encompasses all of history and eternity. The counterfeit perspective to Jesus’ rein is a sad, short story of disgrace and weakness. But the true perspective of His reign is one of strength, love and grace. Jesus took our punishment of death and gave us His gift of everlasting life Click To Tweet. He lived a perfect life, forfeiting His righteousness to make us holy, so we could have a relationship with Him. The crucifixion can be seen as something horrible or remarkable, depending on the view we choose to take. We must look at every situation through God’s eternal view of truth. Click To TweetEven though our circumstance may appear to be one of humiliation and limitation, we can trust that God is using it as a key to unlock His power, victory and glory in our lives.
“Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land” (Matthew 27.45 NKJV).
