It’s a surreal moment waking up to take your sister into surgery, but having a camera crew wiring you with a microphone made the situation even weirder. I bought my sister and I matching outfits, so we could feel connected. The shorts and jackets were from Victoria Secret, and I had to buy duct tape to cover the logo. I didn’t wear makeup because Christina had to have a bare face for surgery. My twin says that she was lying on the operating table doing an interview and suddenly the questions stopped, and she had to go under anesthesia. So strange!
After being in a near death car accident, my sister is no stranger to having surgery. She had complete trust in Dr. Nassif’s ability to fix her nose. The surgery took nine hours, and I walked around Rodeo Drive some of that time looking for a bell. (The bell scene was cut from the show, but you can read all about it in my book about our time filming for Botched, Following God Across the Page.) I came back and waited about three hours in the waiting room until Dr. Nassif came out and instantly inspected my nose. I guess he was comparing my nose to my sister’s. I think he did a great job matching or noses.
Then, the camera crew followed me into her room, and she was just waking up. This is the most disturbing part of surgery–coming out of anesthesia after being under for so many hours. I forced myself to keep a cheerful face, but watching my sister struggle with the pain reminded me so much of her car accident. However, I wouldn’t let me faith falter. I knew that in just a few days, she would be her lively self again. My sister cracked a joke about the pain. She has a way of bringing humor into tense situations–even when she’s the one laid out on the operating table. Finally, the cameras were turned off, and I could take my sister to the post surgery hotel. The worst was behind us. It was time to take care of my sister, so she could heal.
If you would like to know more about how my twin and I landed on the Season 5 Premiere of Botched, you can watch our Interview with Teresa Ann. I am also giving away signed copies of my book, Following God Across the Page, that details our experience on Botched. You can find my other books on Amazon, as well.
Enjoy the pics below of my twin and me at Dr. Nassif’s old office. He has since renovated and moved into a newer part of the building. You can see those pics when I post about Christina’s Reveal!
