I live in a coastal town along the Gulf of Mexico in Texas. Memorial weekend brings in thousands of tourist to our shores and beaches every year. Many schools are out, and we all celebrate with a three day weekend. Families share special moments together on the sand, enjoying the salty air and warm gulf water. But even during the ease of a breezing, summer day, there is a sense of awe and honor to those in history who have given their lives, so we today could enjoy our “Memorial Weekend Vacations.”
Thousands–even millions–0f men and women sacrificed their belongings, comforts and even their lives to make America beautiful, safe and great. As I study history, I am humbled by what our forefathers and foremothers from all backgrounds, races, and incomes gave up, so future generations could have peace and prosperity. America is great because interwoven hands of history lifted its banner of red, white and blue with their dying strength. Their lives were cut short. Their burden was heavy. They sacrifice everything for their belief in our nation.
God has blessed their sacrifice, and we live on the comforts and ease of their labor. Let us honor the named and the nameless today, giving glory to God for pouring out His favor and grace onto us and our chosen nation, the United States of America.
