“Think of it this way. If a father dies and leaves an inheritance for his young children, those children are not much better off than slaves until they grow up, even though they actually own everything their father had” (Galatians 4.1 NLT).
We each have God-given promises through Jesus Christ. These promises are far beyond our ability and strength to attain and maintain, so we need the grace and favor of God. However, there is a growing portion that we need to go through. God loves the process of shaping us into the image of Christ, and it is our promises that move us through this process. We have an inheritance on earth that is ours by adoption right as co-heirs with Christ and children of God, but God has a set time for those promises to come into fruition. When is that time? When we have matured in Christ and have the capacity to manage both the blessing and burden of those promises. We may never be perfect, but God does have a masterpiece in mind for us. We have the raw material, so now we simply need to allow the Holy Spirit to mold us. There is no need to rush God. The promises are only a small piece of the bigger puzzle. God’s main reason for developing us is so He can have an even deeper, more meaningful relationship with us.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time” (1 Peter 5.6 NIV).
