“So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him” (Mark 14.13 NIV).
Jesus sent two of His disciples to find a man in the city who happened to be carrying a jar of water. This man would lead the disciples to an Upper Room that apparently was set for Passover, yet it did not have any Passover participants yet. Passover is the Jewish Holiday started in Egypt when God’s people were slaves, and the spirit of death passed over the homes that had the lamb’s blood on the doorposts (Exodus 12.13). The fact that this Upper Room was set for the holiday without guests shows a lot of faith. Many times, God has us prepare for a moment that we cannot foresee. We get the Upper Room of our destiny ready, but we don’t know exactly when Jesus is going to show up and fill our prepared emptiness with His presence. We can remain faithful and carry the “jug of water” or the presence of the Holy Spirit with us into the city, trusting that God will find us faithful to our callings. We must trust that He will show up exactly at the right time, but we need to be ready by faith, and believe that He will occupy the work and preparation we diligently created in our lives for Him. We may never know exactly when Jesus will show up into our destiny, but we can cling tightly to His promises.
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man” (Matthew 24.36-37 NIV).
