“The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground–trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2.9 NLT).
There were two trees in the Garden of Eden—one representing our free will and the other representing the redemption of our free will. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil allows us the right to make our own choices in obedience or disobedient to God. And the Tree of Life is Jesus Christ who hung on a tree to save the fallout from our choices done outside of God’s will. Jesus’ Blood erases the bad that we create and His light shines the good we create. Like any good father, God does not want His Children to be robots. He wants us to be creators as He Himself is a Creator. He designed us in His very own image, so we can create beauty for His glory. But that free will came at a cost. Because of our choices that are done outside the will of God, we now know good and evil. Good is everything inside God and evil is everything outside of God. God did not create evil, but because good exists, the absence of good also exists. But praise be to God, we can create good for God’s glory while Jesus offers us continual mercy and forgiveness for our flaws and mistakes.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1.9 NIV).
