“God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son” (John 3.17-18 NLT).
Hell is the absence of God. God does not send us to hell; rather, we choose to walk in the absence of God when we don’t accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. We can only be in the Presence of God if we are perfect and holy as God is perfect and holy. But we can’t in our own strength or through our own diligence ever be perfect and holy. We must have a mediator to extend this holiness and perfection to us. Once we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we can have a relationship with God. That relationship continues after we die and we enter into Heaven. If we don’t have a relationship with God through the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the Cross, that lack of relationship we have with God will continue. We will be separated from God because we lack a relationship with Him that’s only possible through a Messiah, Jesus Christ. This is hell, and God does not want even one of His children to go there.
“They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power” (2 Thessalonians 11.9 NLT).
