Faithful and True
“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True…” (Revelation 19.11 NIV).
The writer of Revelation through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit calls Jesus Faithful and True. Regardless of what we experience in this broken world, and regardless of what our intellect and feelings tell us, Jesus Christ is Faithful and True. Faithful means loyal, steadfast and unswerving. Jesus can always be counted on. He will always have our best interest at heart. He will never leave us nor forsake us. True means to be accurate, right and fact. Jesus is not a fairytale, and He’s not simply a metaphor of a higher being. Yes, there are many metaphors to describe Him (Shepherd, Door, Way, Light, Word, etc.), but He Himself actually walked this earth. He lived and breathed and died, like all of us will do. To know that our God can identify with us so completely through the person of Jesus Christ offers us hope that we too can live out this life of faith on earth. When hardships come our way, we must always remember that Jesus is unswerving in His love and loyalty to us, and that everything God says about Jesus in His Word can be counted on.
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’” (Hebrews 13.5 NIV).
