Last week was my birthday week. I turned 41, which is truly a new chapter for my life. I went on two birthday trips on the bookend-weekends of my midweek birthday. The first weekend, I went with my identical twin, Christina, to our State Capital in Austin. We interviewed with Teresa Ann, and we enjoyed the Texas Book Festival.
Then our mom threw my sister and me a birthday party, and our older sister made us birthday shirts.
Finally, I went on a birthday trip with my husband to Maple Creek Bed and Breakfast, and we visited Houston and the Texas Renaissance Festival. I remember a time when my three kids were little, and taking little holidays like these were impossible. Time flies! My kids had so much fun with my mom while we were gone that they complained when we came home early!
I received many presents from family and friends, but the one present I gave myself was to finish my book, Mark within Salvation, the third book of the Anoma Series, which includes Eve of Awakening and Bear into Redemption. I did a lot of weekend writing to perform this small miracle, but I finished! Now I have family and friends reading and polishing the manuscript for me.
I am hoping to get Mark within Salvation out before Christmas. Then I can focus on writing book four of the series. I’m thinking there will be six books in all. If you haven’t read the first one yet, I would be honored if you invested some of your time into reading it. I promise you, the Holy Spirit has guided my “pen” the entire time, and you will find Jesus in the pages of all my novels.
I can’t believe that I first wrote Eve of Awakening, my debut novel, when I was 29 years old. Twelve years and 14 books later, I am still writing. I didn’t know what I was doing when I first started, and I had to do a lot of editing and rewriting on my first draft, cutting it from 140,000 words to 87,000 words and changing almost every single sentence in the manuscript. But like I always tell my kids, “You have to be bad something before you can become good at it.”
So here’s to another 41 years of being bad at something!
