“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time” (1 Timothy 2.5-6 NIV).
We are separated from God because He is holy and we are not. God loves us and wants a relationship with us, but holiness cannot mix with even a touch of sin or it will be tainted. God cannot have anything to do with sin, so He needed a redemption plan to bring us back to Him. For this reason, He sent Himself into His own creation—a creation corrupted by our sin—and He redeemed all the earth and its people. When we accept Jesus’ sacrifice for our sin, His blood—the very life-source of God—surrounds us, and we now are holy before God even in our sinful state, and we can have God’s Spirit living within us. We are redeemed through the Work and Blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus is our Meditator to God. Jesus is God in the flesh Who was broken, so that redemption could flow freely onto the earth. God knew that we would fall short of His holy standard, which is why He already had the redemption plan ready during Creation Week (Romans 3.23). God completed all of creation by Day 6, so He rested on Day 7 knowing that Jesus was Lord over Sabbath. Jesus would do the work on Day 7 of redeeming the earth and bringing us back into fellowship with God. Praise God that we have a Mediator who was obedient even unto death, so that we could be saved.
“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death– even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2.8 NIV).
