People of Light
“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light” (Ephesians 5.8 NLT).
Light changes our perspective on a situation. It brings illumination, clarity and objectivity. Light give us the actual details of what is happening, which many times contradicts with how we are feeling at the time. Wrong feelings can distort how we see people and situations, especially if we are consumed with powerful emotions, like passion, anger, hurt, jealousy, etc. When our feelings and our understanding (guided by light) are at odds, we must always trust the light. We can’t always trust our feelings. The Bible explains that the heart above all else is deceitful. But if our heart is submissive to the Holy Spirit, the light will expose our distorted feelings, and we can make godly choices instead of rash decisions. We don’t have to walk around chained to negative feelings that rip apart our relationships and cause us to stumble. Jesus came to set us free from emotional-slavery. We can walk confidently and freely in the light, knowing that our steps are directed by truth, not by feelings that change on a whim.
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17.9 NIV).
