“Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, ‘I am a warrior'” (Joel 3.10 ESV).
We find in the Book of Joel that God is fighting for the people whom He loves. God will fight for us too. Whatever arena to which we are called, God has special plans for us in His battle for good on this earth. He can transform the everyday resources at our disposal to win victories in His Kingdom. Many of God’s People in the Old Testament worked the land, cultivating fields of crops and vineyards. God encouraged His people to transform their “plowshares into swords” and their “pruning hooks into spears.” Both these tools were used agriculturally, but God called His people to take those same tools to establish their destiny as People of the Lord! We also have tools that we us daily to accomplish the natural tasks that God has assigned us; however, as we are faithful at implementing these tools in God’s service, He will call us to use those same tools in a spiritual battle that reaches into eternity. Whatever tool we use on a daily basis–computer, stethoscope, classroom, business, pulpit, home, hands, voice, etc.– God will call us to use it for His glory and heaven’s ultimate victory. We may not see ourselves as warriors for His kingdom, but God does. God calls us to reach past our limitations and situations and declare that we have warriors hearts that are obedient to Him!
“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much” (Luke 16.10 NASB).
