“And he said to me, ‘Son of man, feed your belly with this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it.’ Then I ate it, and it was in my mouth as sweet as honey” (Ezekiel 3.3 ESV).
God anointed Ezekiel a watchman over the people. He also gave Ezekiel His words and visions to share with others in order to warn and prepare them for things to come. Thousands of years later, Ezekiel’s writings are still empowering God’s people to live in His Truth. But before Ezekiel was chosen to fulfill this special purpose that God had entrusted to him, he needed to “eat” God’s Scroll, His Holy Word contained in the Bible. God gave Ezekiel a vision of him literally consuming the Holy Scrolls, which parallels the time Ezekiel (as a priest) spent reading God’s Word. As Christians, God had a special purpose designed specifically for us to fulfill; however, we must be spending time in His Word. The Bible gives us the spiritual fuel we need to accomplish our supernatural goals for God. When we understand how amazing and satisfying the Bible is to the entirety of our lives, the verses will literally taste “as sweet as honey” to us. God wants to take us to new levels of faith, but we must not starve spiritually on the way. We can gorge ourselves on His Word, knowing that our strength and endurance will have the sustenance they need so we can finish our race strong (2 Timothy 4.7).
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world” (John 6.51 NIV).
