I Got Your Back
“Then he said, ‘If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the people of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you'” (1 Chronicles 9.12 NKJV).
king David’s men were about to go to war; however, David’s military leader, Joab, discovered that “the battle line was against him before and behind” (1 Chronicles 19.10). In a nutshell, the army of God’s Chosen People was surrounded. Instead of running away in fear and declaring defeat, Joab divided his soldiers into two units, and each division fought a different enemy. Before the soldiers began their campaign, however, Joab commanded that if one division of soldiers fell behind, the other division would help them. In life, God leads us into battles and calls us to overcome difficult situations. Many times these battles are so overwhelming that we can’t fight victoriously alone. We use up all our strength, willpower, resources and faith; but still we feel like we are falling behind. We need a Holy Spirit inspired person, group or resource to come along side of us and help us defeat our enemies. Sometimes the world looks down on people who ask for help. Somehow, seeking outside guidance and/or assistance is seen as weakness or faithlessness. But the truth is that if we are doing God’s will, admitting when we need help is a sign of strength and understanding. Life is too short to live in constant defeat. Instead of feeling like we have to overcome every obstacle ourselves, we need to look around us at the people and resources God has provided to help us claim our victory.
“Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. And may the LORD do what is good in His sight” (1 Chronicles 9.13 NKJV).
