Why the Wealth?
“Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, ‘The LORD be with you!’And they answered him, ‘The LORD bless you!'” (Ruth 2.4 NKJV).
We know two things about Boaz before he walks into the Story of Ruth 1) He is related to Naomi, Ruth’s mother-in-law 2) He is wealthy. The scene opens up to him walking through his fields among his trove of employees, and the first words he speaks give us a glimpse of this man’s life and heart: He shouts, “The Lord be with you!” Obviously, his employees have a high regard and much respect for their employer because they roar a blessing back to him: “The Lord bless you!” One of Boaz’s main purposes in life is to be a kinsman-redeemer (a relative who redeems a widow and her family). In order to fulfill his purpose, Boaz needs monetary wealth and the spiritual gift of giving, and Boaz has both of these. Boaz’s entrepreneurial integrity and success will maintain the financial support of the royal and anointed blood line of King David and the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Boaz allows God to infiltrate his life to the point that even his servants and reapers proclaim God’s blessings on him (which have a profound effect!). Though we might not all be called to have great wealth like Boaz, we can infuse the Lord’s presence into our spiritual giftings whatever they may be, so we can fill the need that God created us to fill — so we can achieve our purpose!
“Father, we offer all of our resources to You. Whether we have wealth, fame, influence, wisdom, understanding, compassion, mercy and/or teaching, preaching, helping, serving, healing, leading, administration or serving abilities — we give all of our gifts, skills, experiences and resources to You. Infuse our lives, minds, workplaces, families, churches and hearts with Your presence. We understand that You have given us exactly what we need to fulfill our specific purpose. We will not covet or judge others based on their blessings, and we will keep our eyes on the prize that You designed and set before each of us. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
