“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory” (Romans 8.17 NIV).
I’ve learned that we judge people based on our own perceptions of importance. We put people on a pedestal or in a ditch, depending on how they rank in our skewed understanding of hierarchy. However, God loves everyone equally. He places the highest value on each of us, which He demonstrated when He left His glory, came to this earth as a man and died for us on the cross. I thought I had gotten a handle on my hidden sin of judging until I started filming for CMT MADE. All of a sudden, I was anxious and nervous about what the “show” people thought, and I put them on pedestals. This caused me to struggle because I began to worry more about their view of me than God’s view of me. I thought more about pleasing them than God. The funny thing is that they never asked to be on pedestals; but because their world was new and prestigious to me, I automatically ranked them high. However, I realized that if we honor God above all else, we won’t judge and rank people because God truly outweighs us all. I won’t worry about what other people say, think, do or want because I’m too consumed with what the Creator says, thinks, does and wants. Life is so simple when we put God first—He stays on the pedestal, He throws our sin in the ditch and we all become co-heirs with Christ.
God, no matter what new circumstance I find myself or what new group of people I rub elbows with, I want to always put You first. I won’t be nervous or intimidated by others because I know that we are all equal in Your eyes. You put a priceless value on us all, and You love us so much that You willing took the ugliness of our sins. Thank You. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
