Day 19: Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are also very important to bodybuilding. They give bodybuilders the energy to lift weights and grow muscle. Without carbohydrates, they would not have the energy to recover and repair broken muscle. I like to compare carbohydrates to prayer and worship. When we worship God and talk with Him, we are filled with a supernatural energy that empowers us to fulfill God’s amazing plans for our lives. Without satisfying our lives with God’s restorative energy, our spiritual walk may become flat and tired.
When we go to church and sing praises to the Lord in true worship, we fill up on feelings of love and power. We can enjoy this experience outside of our church in the everyday moments of our lives at home, work or wherever we are. We can physically and spiritually sense our souls being replenished with joy, strength and courage. And when we pray to our Heavenly Father, we open ourselves up for Him to pour in His power and anointing into our lives. We can surround ourselves with uplifting worship music or podcasts. We can also slip away like Jesus did and pray to God whenever we feel our energy running low or our courage faltering.
But when people overindulge in carbs and do not apply the energy that the carbs give them, they become overweight with stored-up energy. As Christians, we need to apply the energy that God gives us during prayer and worship. We will ultimately deplete our spiritual energy by encouraging, serving and lifting up others; but God will restore our strength. This way we will stay spiritually fit; rather than spiritually fat. People who bounce from one spiritual high to the next without ever operating in the power they gain can become self-serving and useless in the Kingdom of God. We have to pour out what we’ve been given, trusting that God will continue to fill us back up to overflowing.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Isaiah 40.29 NIV).
God, I want You to fill me with Your supernatural energy today and every day. I need Your strength and power in order to complete the fullness of the plans that You have for me. I want to use up that energy doing Your will and serving others, so I can be filled up again. Show me how to gain energy by worshipping You and communing with You through prayer. Pour Your anointing on me, so I have the power to achieve victory as I walk by faith. I want to be a spiritually vigorous part of Your Kingdom. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
