Church of Thyatira
“Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols” (Revelation 2.20 NKJV).
The Church of Thyatira was thriving as a church, and they were accomplishing great deeds with the love and faith for which they were well known. However, they allowed one thing to disrupt their church—the Spirit of Jezebel. The Spirit of Jezebel is a very powerful, seductive, intimidating and self-righteous force. When we allow people into our lives who are manipulated by this spirit, we are inviting a twisted and disruptive entity to influence us. The sad truth is that at any given moment some Christians can be directed by this spirit because they are not completely submitted to the Lord. Satan can have free rein in areas of our lives that are not under God’s authority. Self-absorbed people who always want to be in control are very vulnerable to being directed by this evil spirit. If we are not letting God have control, we are susceptible to letting the enemy have control. To believe we are in control ourselves is ignorant. People are created to be vessels, and either God’s good or Satan’s evil will fill us. When someone with a self-centered and controlling nature comes into our lives, we must be careful not to allow their subtle tentacles of power to wrap around us. They are looking for anyone who will put them first and establish their authority, and they resist people who seek to put God first and establish His authority. And many times, they have no idea that the Spirit of Jezebel is influencing them because they are so used to slapping God’s hand away, so they can be first and in control. We are all susceptible to this spirit, which is why we need to remain submitted to the Lord.
“There certainly was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do evil in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife incited him” (1 Kings 21.25 AMP).
