“But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3.13 NIV).
Heaven is not just a misty abyss with a few clouds and a smattering of angels. Heaven is the presence of God (with hell being the absence of God). God is a Creator, so heaven will be nothing short of amazing creations filled to the rim with the imagination of our Heavenly Father. When Jesus rose from the dead, He had a supernatural body that was also physical. He could appear out of thin air, but he had flesh that could be touched (John 20.19-29). The New Earth will be much the same—it will be supernatural yet physical all at the same time. We will have what we have on earth, only better. Just as exciting is that we will also have new bodies, which will be our bodies, only better! As Christians, we have so much to look forward to. Death is not the end; it is our true beginning. This life on this earth is much like a mother’s womb, developing and maturing us into the people we will be for eternity. So let us not waste one single moment of our time on this earth. One day we will look back on our time here and realize just how quickly it went. God has promised us a New Earth and a New Home with Him through Jesus Christ. We can look forward to this promise by living each day to its fullest until we are finally called home.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone” (Revelation 21.1 NLT).
