Not Free at All
“They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for ‘people are slaves to whatever has mastered them’” (2 Peter 2.19 NIV).
Today there is much talk about our freedom of choice to do whatever we feel is right for us. People think they are freeing the world to do as the please, but in actuality they are enslaving the world to their own corruption and destruction. God’s Words found in the Bible are true and right, and they lead to a life with meaning and prosperity. When we go against His Word—no matter how pretty and pleasing our actions seem to the world—we will trap ourselves in our own depravity. Humans are not able to achieve a moral compass alone. We need a source outside of ourselves to help guide us with Light and Truth. We walk in true freedom when we are surrendered to God’s commands because only He can supernaturally open the road in front of us. God’s path goes beyond this world and this life to an eternal life with Him. If we listen to ourselves and our own evil desires, the supernatural doors of God will be closed shut. He can’t bless what is not committed into His hands. When we are obeying our own desires and not God’s, we are in essence taking ourselves out of God’s care. Freedom of choice outside of God’s will may sound freeing, but the end result will be our own demise.
“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death” (James 1.14-15 ESV).
