A Royal Priesthood
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2.9 NIV).
People act the way they believe themselves to be. Christians who don’t read the Bible and truly soak up God’s Word have no clue who they are in Christ. But Paul lays it out. He affirms that we are “a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession,” and because of this knowledge, we will praise Him who calls us to such an elevated position in His Kingdom. We are royalty! We are priests! We are holy! We have been purchased by the Blood of Jesus! When the truth really begins to make its way from our minds into our hearts, we will start to behave accordingly. We’ll walk in the position and the authority to which God has called each of us. The enemy doesn’t want us to know who we are in Christ. This way Satan can make us think low of ourselves, so he can easily trip us up and destroy our destiny. But we must aggressively see ourselves through the eyes of God’s grace every day. Our purpose and position in God is no longer hazy and blurred. Light has been shed through Jesus Christ, and we now know that we mirror the image of God. Jesus has cleaned and perfected us, and we can easily live a life that pleases God by faith.
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1.27 NIV).
