Hearts and Minds
“But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people” (Hebrews 8.10).
During the Old Covenant, God’s Spirit (Holy Spirit) could come upon people who were found faithful to Him. However, the Holy Spirit’s movements in people’s lives were temporary and selective. Today, in the New Covenant established by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we can have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit always. We have been forgiven of our sin and are justified by the Blood of Jesus, and the proof our righteousness by faith is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Now the Holy Spirit can write His words on our minds and our hearts. He is our constant Companion, Teacher and Guide, helping us every day with His promptings. We are not alone anymore. There is a God Who loves us, so He died to save us from our sins in order to be with us every second of every day. We can have an intimate relationship with God, and He can pour His Truth all through our innermost being if we remain open to Him. With God’s Spirit in us, there is nothing too hard, too scary or too overwhelming that we can’t have the victory over with His help. We have been brought back to God, so we could be His people for eternity.
“And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him” (2 Corinthians 5.18 NLT).
