“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3.16-17 NIV).
Paul’s words in these two verses to Timothy are renown. Paul summarizes the Bible in this one sentence. The Bible is spoken through God to us in order to teach, rebuke, correct and train us, so that we can accomplish all that God has planned for us. We will never accomplish our God-given destiny if we are not reading the Bible. We will not thoroughly grow in the Lord if we are not consuming His Word. When we become Christians, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us, and He will work in tandem with the Bible to shape us into the image of Jesus. Yes, the Holy Spirit can talk to us in other ways, but it is through God’s Word that He reveals His Son, Jesus, and His Kingdom Plan to us. We need to be reading the Bible every day along with other Christian resources—devotionals, novels, sermons, articles, movies, music, etc.—so that we can be transformed and “equipped for every good work.” Let us not neglect the One thing that will assure our victory—God’s Holy Word!
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” (Hebrews 4.12 NLT).
