“Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained” (2 Timothy 2.8-9 NIV).
God’s Word will never, ever be chained. No matter what predicament we find ourselves in, and no matter if we feel like our hands are tied behind our back, God’s Word reigns freely inside and outside of us. We don’t have to fear that our limitations and strongholds are preventing God’s Spirit to move in the world around us. Our chains— inabilities, mistakes, weaknesses—will never prevent the flow of God’s Word. And it is usually when our strength is weak and our abilities are on lockdown that God’s shows up with supernatural might and fervor. When we are worn out and tired and come to the end of ourselves, God will take over and accomplish His glory with miracles and wonders only He can produce. Paul’s chains spread the Gospel even further than he could ever imagine. Our chains will allow God to accomplish more than we could ever dream. We must never think that our limitations are preventing God’s movements; in fact, they are probably propelling them!
“And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear” (Philippians 1.14 NIV).
