Prayers Instead of Worry
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done” (Philippians 4. 6 NLT).
When thoughts are trying to consume us with worry, the only thing to combat our anxiety is to pray about everything. We can try to distract ourselves with books, movies, friendly chatter and other diversions, but we will eventually find ourselves full circle fraught with the same worries again. Paul says the only alternative to worry is prayer. God knows what we need, and He is more than able to provide for us physically, emotionally and spiritually. Anything that is plaguing us must be dealt with in the supernatural realm as we commune with God in prayer. He is the only One that can provide complete peace in our minds, hearts and situations. The longer we put off seeking God about our worries, the longer we will have to deal with our negative thoughts in our own strength. But our human strength will eventually run dry and we will either sink into despair or finally run to our Heavenly Father. It is best to prevent the destructive pattern of worry, anxiety and despair and turn to Jesus right away in prayer. When we finally seek God, He will give us His amazing peace, which will guard our minds and hearts from falling into a pit of despair once more.
“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4.7 NTL).
