“So I have reason to be enthusiastic about all Christ Jesus has done through me in my service to God. Yet I dare not boast about anything except what Christ has done through me, bringing the Gentiles to God by my message and by the way I worked among them” (Romans 15.17-18 NLT).
There is one thing for which we can boast: What Jesus Christ has done in and through us. It doesn’t matter how big or small. If we felt a call from God and worked with the Holy Spirit to accomplish His will, we can boast! Whether it be raising our kids in a Christ-centered home, building a business that honors God, working in ministry to help the those in need, restoring a marriage from divorce or even cleaning our neighbor’s gutters—we can praise the Lord for our accomplishments. We can feel satisfaction for furthering God’s Kingdom Plan. We can give testimony to how great and mighty are God’s movements. Paul worked diligently to bring the Gospel to those who didn’t know Him, so Paul could be honest and excited about his efforts. He wasn’t showing off his work to gain approval from people; he was thrilled about all that God was accomplishing in him. Paul was bringing the salvation of Jesus to many people, and he was excited about the fruits of his labor. There is boasting that is self-centered and boasting that is God-centered. When our boasting glorifies the Lord and His will, we have nothing to feel guilty about. We are simply sharing God’s goodness to the world!
“Therefore, as it is written: ‘Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord’” (1 Corinthians 1.31 NIV).
