“On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter” Zechariah 14.8 ESV).
The Old Testament prophets could only dream about the New Testament promises that the Messiah would bring. Not only would this Messiah restore Israel, He would also restore the entire world and its people. Because of Jesus’ death on the cross, our sin has been redeemed and we have been reconciled to our perfect Creator. Jesus is the carrier of the Living Water. He was made flesh and broken, so that Living Water could be poured onto the physical earth from a spiritual heaven. Much like a grape, Jesus is Living Water wrapped in flesh, squeezed out on the earth in the form of the New Wine of Grace, replacing the Old Wine of Law. In this era of New Wine, we as Believers have many promises granted to us. We can a have relationship with God. We can have God’s favor even in our imperfect state. We are Children of God and coheirs with Christ. We have the Holy Spirit as our guide. We have a purpose and our lives have meaning. We are loved by our Creator. We can live forever with God in heaven. And the list goes on. No matter the heartache our day brings, we can have joy in the fact that God is the lover of our souls, and He has given us a way to be with Him forever. Living Water flows into our lives from the east and west, and we no longer have to thirst for meaning in this fleeting life.
“Give me the love that leads the way, the faith that nothing can dismay, the hope no disappointments tire, the passion that will burn like fire; Let me not sink to be a clod: Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.” – Amy Carmichael
