Effort of People
“You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes” (Haggai 1.6 ESV).
God’s Chosen People have neglected to rebuild God’s house, the Temple. Since they have taken their eyes off the things of God and placed them on the things of people, they find themselves never having enough. It’s frustrating when we put so much effort into something, and we see very little in return. One very valid reason for this is that God is saving our efforts for when He will supernaturally bless them. If our work is being done in obedience to God, and we are not seeing the fruit manifest yet in the natural world, we must believe by faith that the fruit is so big that it is still maturing. However, if we are working in the flesh, committing to efforts—no matter how spiritual and good they may seem—that are not done in obedience to God, we will never manifest the results that we seek. Our strength does not measure up to much without the powerful strength of the Lord on our side. We spin our wheels in vain when we are not rooted in the Vine of Christ. We must put God’s agenda first, knowing that His agenda is always for our benefit and good. His ways may not make sense at first, but we must trust that God loves us and He wants to supernaturally bless us with His abundance.
“But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6.33 ASV).
