I’m honored to introduce my new book, Fitness, Food & Faith. The past four months for me have been an intense training of health and fitness and how my faith is the core of both. God gave me a message to share, and I have been obedient (never perfect) to give that message with discernment, research and wisdom.
I can think of no better way to introduce my book than to offer you my book’s concluding thoughts. I wrote from the heart, so that we as God’s Children would be blessed, encouraged and motivated. I hope it inspires every person who reads it. You can purchase your copy of Fitness, Food & Faith at Amazon by clicking HERE.
I never set out to write a book like this. Mainly, I didn’t think I would ever be qualified to relay the information found in these pages. I wanted to write a personal faith-based memoir about competing in a bodybuilding competition. I have always worked out and watched my calories, but I had never set goals higher than simply staying fit and healthy. However, after much confusion and disappointment, I sat down at my desk and stared at the stories, notes and facts I had written and the piles of books I had read. God wanted more from me, but I didn’t know what. I soon realized that I would have to stretch in order to be obedient to His call on my life for this book. I had to get extreme!
In four months, I trained, competed and placed in a bodybuilding competition. And I studied, tested and became a Certified Fitness Trainer and Specialist in Fitness Nutrition. Now God called me to write something new with the information that I gained, and He helped motivate me with a dream. A woman came up to me in my dream, and she glowed with peace and joy. She thanked me for the fitness book that I had written. God showed me in this dream that the book was already written; I just needed to type out the pages. Yet I still didn’t feel qualified, so the next morning God sat me down and had me open my Bible, and I read God’s words found in Ezekiel 3.17 (NLT).
“Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately.”
I read those words from God and knew that I had just been made qualified. There is no greater qualification than when God tells us to do it. I learned after years of obediently communicating God’s heart, that no message should be rejected, especially the message of impending destruction. The message that God is giving me is simple: We are sabotaging the life and purpose that God has given us by the foods we eat and the sedentary activities we do. The scariest part is that our children are headed down the same path of devastation. We have to put on the brakes now and look what’s happening to God’s precious people.
Satan has cunningly created an atmosphere in our culture that is robbing us of our quality of life. And we must speak out and stop the spiral of destruction. We are eating foods that starve us of nutrition, yet encumber us with weight. We are doing activities that sedate our body, diminishing our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strength. We are anxious, depressed, joyless and fearful all because of our lack of self-control and lack of motivation. Something has to change. Our Kingdom Purpose is buried in the sand, and we are too tired and frustrated to dig it up.
I pray that God uses this book to make that change. I want to see many people like the woman from my dream, filled with peace and joy because they created those small lifestyle changes, saving themselves and their families from destruction. This book has stretched me beyond what I thought was capable, and I have stayed obedient to His call. Now it is your turn. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you. He wants you to live a victorious life for Him. He wants you to have the energy and stamina to dig up your Kingdom Purpose and fulfill it. Don’t count the number of times you fall during your health and fitness transformation; count the number of times you take that next step, then the next, then the next!
“Father, Lord, I pray for the people holding this book. I pray that they find the courage and power to change their lives. I pray that they can lean on You for courage and strength when times get tough and they want to give up. Stretch them as You have stretched me. Help them to stay obedient to Your call—not just in health and fitness, but in all areas of life. Show them the abundance of resources available to them that will teach and guide them on their journey to a healthier life. I pray this in the Name Above All Names, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, our Savior and Lord. Amen.”

“In reading Alisa Hope Wagner’s book, I was struck by the ease with which she conveyed the connection of health and well-being with profound spiritual truths! The WISDOM within speaks as God’s Handbook to wellness. As a nurse, I feel she very accurately spoke of the complexities of treating the WHOLE person: body, mind, and soul… while connecting very personally with the reader to allow those truths to permeate the core! This book appeals to anyone in any phase of their health/fitness journey… and we ALL have one.”
