“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “When the plowman shall overtake the reaper, And the treader of grapes him who sows seed; The mountains shall drip with sweet wine, And all the hills shall flow with it” (Amos 9.13 NKJV).
The writer of Amos prophesies that a New Wine would soon drip from the mountains and flow through all the hills of the earth. This wine represents redemption and salvation from the sins and efforts of humankind. The land will be so full of abundance that the people harvesting will gather the fruit just before a new crop is being planted! The Children of God have tried and tried to be good enough to meet God’s holy standard only to fail time and time again. That Law was given to Moses on Mount Sinai to show God’s people that they will always fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3.23). However, the New Wine of Jesus is about to fill the earth with a fresh covenant of salvation! Jesus calls His body, the bread, and His blood, the wine. In order to get to the New Wine, Jesus would have to take on the flesh of humankind, allowing His body to be broken, so His blood could pour forth into the earth! During the Last Supper, Jesus broke the bread and poured the wine for His disciples. He was symbolically showing them what they would witness first hand in just a few days on Passover. Jesus would become the new Passover Lamb, forgiving the sins of all the people of the world once and for all. The Sour Wine of bitterness was about to be transformed into the New Wine of Salvation, allowing the Living Water to penetrate this earth and bear fruit in all the lives connected to the Great Vine!
“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body.’ Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins'” (Matthew 26.26-28 NKJV).
