Children of the Living God
“Yet the number o the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ it shall be said to them, ‘Children of the living God” (Hosea 1.10 ESV).
Hosea is not a very uplifting book in the Bible. In fact, many harsh prophecies are declared against Israel because of their unfaithfulness to God. Just like an adulteress wife, the Children of God have been lusting after other Gods, namely Baal. God who has been a faithful, doting husband to Israel will allow the rampant unfaithfulness of His people no longer. His hand of protection will be lifted, and the people of Israel will feel the full effects of their disobedience. However, in the midst of the devastating news, God vows redemption and reconciliation. God will fulfill the oath He made to Abraham that all nations will be blessed through his descendants and the promised Messiah. A voice crying out in the wilderness of time declares that all the people of earth can be counted as God’s Children through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross (Matthew 3.9). This beautiful promise pierces the darkest moments of our lives today. As Christians, no matter what chaos, destructions or heartache we are experiencing, we can hold tightly to the Truth that we have salvation through Jesus Christ. Regardless of what this world throws at us, we can find peace and joy, knowing that we will someday dwell with God in Heaven where pain, suffering, sorrow and hopelessness will be no more.
“What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would declare the Gentiles to be righteous because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you (Galatians 3.8 NLT).
