My family and I recently moved back into our home on North Padre Island, the barrier island located near Corpus Christi, Texas, which I just learned is the longest barrier island in the world (thanks, Wikipedia!) Over two years ago after our move off “The Island” (as it’s locally called) and into the city, I vowed never to move again. Moving causes such stress and chaos and enormous amounts of work and patience.
But like God does, He moves us when He wants, regardless of our whimsical declarations. As I sit to write this at my desk in my new “old” home, memories of last week’s process of methodically going through each room and every box, placing everything back where it belongs or finding new homes for them, is still fresh on my mind.
When I finally finished a few nights ago, I held up my hands and told my husband, “These hands have touch literally every single thing in this house.”
As I thought about the last few weeks of craziness, God paralleled the order of my home to the order of my life. God is the maker of creativity (He created the solar system, angels, earth, animals and people), but He is also the maker of order. He has placed a system that arranges all of life, including salvation through His Son, Jesus. Without order even the most imaginative vision or idea would never come to fruition.
God wants to order our lives, not through control or coercion, but through the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit. God desires to place His hands on every detail of our lives because He loves us and He working for our good. He doesn’t want to cause us pain, but He knows that the abundant life that He has for us only comes with total submission to Him.
Sometimes we want to keep some boxes or rooms closed to God. We fear His rejection or His authority in our lives, but we must trust that He is the Master Organizer. He alone can make our lives peaceful and beautiful. If we open our heart, mind and soul to Him, a mess may come forth; but we know that in due time, He have will have arranged and organized even the darkest corners of our lives.
Questions: Is there anything in your life that you are keeping from God? How can you transform your fear of exposure into faith in His gentle hands? Are there any areas of your life that may need to be touched by the Master Organizer?
“He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!” (Psalm 147.3-5 NLT).
