“Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine” (Proverbs 3.9-10 NIV).
The promise of firstfruits reaches past our finances and into every aspect of our lives. We have a firstfruit of our time, our day, our energy, our talents, our thanksgiving, our discipline, education, work, home, thoughts, confidence, body, etc. Only until we have God the center of our lives, will the firstfruit of each of our moments be given unto His care. When God is our heart’s desire and our mind’s preoccupation, we will automatically offer the choicest portion of our existence to Him. God doesn’t need our offering. He has an all-consuming perfection in and of Himself. His glory needs no additions or supplements. However, since God has an endless and overpowering love for us, He wants to bless every second of our days on this earth. But He can’t bless what is not offered to Him. That is why we must always give Him the firstfruits of all our efforts, so He can bless the fullness of our work with His glorious touch. So don’t hold back from God. Give up your entire life to Him, knowing that when you lose your life in Christ, you will truly find it.
“For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (Matthew 16.25 ESV).
