“Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you” (Hebrews 13.17 NIV).
Before I read the writings of others, I like to know who has spiritual authority over their lives. I’m a firm believer in a system of authority. I believe without the accountability of wise leaders, a person can lose sight of God’s greater purpose and begin to live within a self-focused atmosphere.
I have many spiritual leaders in my life. The most influential is obviously the Holy Spirit. I feel His spirit grieve when my actions displease Him, and He always has direct access into the workings of my heart, mind and will. Besides God, I’m committed to my husband’s leadership. I trust his judgments, and I rely on his strength, wisdom and confidence in my life.
Although I have many mentors and teachers, the most prominent is the pastor of my local church. Bil Cornelius has been my pastor for almost 9 years. I have grown spiritually in my church, Bay Area Fellowship. I served in women’s ministry for many years. I served in spiritual discipleship. And my husband and I served in small group leadership. Without the local church, I would not be able to properly grow in the Body of Christ.
With all this being said, my pastor, Bil Cornelius, has published his third book, Today is the Day! I just finished reading it, and it is loaded with all the insight, Scripture and resources we need to claim the God-given desires overflowing in each of us. The time is now to admit that we have a greater purpose in Christ, and that God has wired us to do something beautiful for His Kingdom.
I know my pastor’s words ring true because it was 8 years ago that I finished writing my debut novel, Eve of Awakening, and began the journey of becoming the person who God designed me to be. My pastor’s passion to help people achieve God’s best changed my life, and I know his book, Today is the Day, will do the same thing for you.
I believe in the validity of Pastor Bil’s message and the desire of his heart to grow other leaders. And you can trust that my pastor also has spiritual authority over him. You can read the endorsements found on the inside cover of his book: Steven Furtick, Craig Groeschel, Robert Morris and Perry Noble–just to name a few. Pastor Bil has the influence of wise leaders pouring into him, and it shows in both his personal and professional life.
I know that my pastor’s book is too good not to share, so I want to give a free signed copy to one of my readers. If you comment on this post, I will enter your name to win Today is the Day and all the wisdom found in its pages. The contest ends Monday, January 20th at 10pm. Please leave your email in the comment box, so I can communicate with the winner!
“God can do anything, you know – far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us” (Ephesians 3.20 The Message).
