I bought a new chai mix. The one I normally use is a liquid, but this one came in a powder form. I glanced at the instructions, and it read that I can use three tablespoons of the dry mix for 8 ounces of water. I quickly filled my favorite mug with hot water, and scooped out three spoonfuls with the handy scooper they supplied within the jar. I tasted the finished result and discovered it was way too sweet for me.
I poured the chai into another mug and gave it to my husband. I figured that he wouldn’t mind the extra sweet flavor. I went back to the kitchen and filled my mug once again with 8 ounces of hot water. This time I added only one heaping scoop of the chai mixture. I stirred the steaming liquid and took a sip. It tasted perfect! I was so excited! I only needed 1/3 of the required powder, so I would consume only 1/3 of the calories!
I looked at the nutritional label and discovered that the three tablespoons of chai mix equaled 150 calories, so I would take in only 50 calories for a yummy, frothy cup of chai tea latte! It seemed too good to be true! I have found the miracle beverage!
A few days later, I made another chai for my husband and me. I gave him only two scoops of chai mix this time because he said that the last one was too sweet for him. As I scooped out his second helping, my mind became a little suspicious. I held up the scooper and analyzed it. I wondered if the scoop actually held the full three tablespoons of mixture required for the 8 ounces of chai. Sure enough, it did. My miracle beverage was actually a caloric nightmare!
In life, there are many things that are too good to be true, but the Good News of Jesus Christ is ALL GOOD and ALL TRUE! Jesus died for our sins and gave us His righteousness, so we could live for eternity in heaven with God. We don’t have to be good enough, work hard enough or know enough; we simply need to accept the gift of salvation for our sins!
And the thing about Jesus is that we can never have too much of Him. In fact, the more we drink and eat of His Word and His goodness, the healthier — physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually — we will become! An abundant life with Jesus may seem too good to be true, but it’s a promise!
Questions: With whom can you share the Good News of Jesus Christ today? Do you have a faith-story that seems “too good to be true” that would encourage others?
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10.10 NKJV)
