“And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 28.2 NKJV).
God is the creator, maker and giver of everything good. He is an unending tap of love, hope, peace and joy in a world corrupted by sin. He bestowed us with free-will knowing we would sabotage His perfect creation with our godless choices, so He prepared a redemption plan by sending Himself to take the punishment for our sin through Jesus Christ–God clothed in flesh. Although God did not create sin, He allows it to exist in this world as a tool to cut away the sin in our own lives and hearts. Christians can grin and bear the painful process of transforming into the image of Christ or we can be so enraptured by the favor of God that we find joy in the center of our breaking and healing. The Bible says that if we follow the voice of the Lord, His blessings will “come upon and overtake” us. Can our enjoyment and enthusiasm of living for Christ be so great–so overwhelming–that we barely notice the bumps and bruises along the way? Can we recognize just how fleeting and short our time is on earth that our view of the finish line–heaven–prevents us from dwelling on our stumbles in this life? We have a promise: If we obey the voice of the Lord we will be overtaken by His blessings. Though heartache and pain will continue until our deaths, we can diminish their weight by receiving the unlimited favor and blessings God has for each of us. All we have to do is obey His voice and tap into the source of all that good.
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1.8-9 NIV).
