“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3.1 NLT).
Training for a MMA fight took a huge chunk of time out of my schedule. Toward the end of my training, I had to work-out in the morning and spar in the evening. Luckily my kids were in summer camp in the mornings, but arranging help in the evenings became difficult for me. I had two weeks left to train, and I longed to have my family time back. I was so unsure of everything at this point because I always prided myself on being a mother who always put her kids first. All of a sudden, however, I found myself in a crazy, short season of becoming a MMA fighter. I told God that I was struggling, and I prayed for clarity. I took my kids to their church summer camp, and the teachers told me that they would be having Vacation Bible School (VBS) the following week for three hours every evening. I couldn’t believe it. The church was close to the gym; so I was able to drop off my kids, train and then pick them right back up. God not only provided the time required for me to train, but He also affirmed my steps of obedience by putting my kids in an atmosphere where they would learn more about Him! When we walk by faith into areas that make us feel unsure, God will clear the way so we can trust His leading. I’m thankful that God helped me through a very difficult stage of sacrifice, but I’m especially thankful that my family time is wonderfully back to normal.
God, thank You for getting me through that short season of sacrifice. I now have such a profound joy in doing the simplest tasks required to maintain my family and home. I am honored to wash the dishes, fold the laundry and tuck warm, little bodies into bed every night. I don’t take the role of being a parent and spouse lightly, and I feel immensely blessed to serve those I love. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
