“But the gate is narrow (contracted by pressure) and the way is straitened and compressed that leads away to life, and few are those who find it” (Matthew 7.14 AMP).
I recently finished a season of fasting. I felt God calling me to all kinds of fasts – water only, Daniel Diet (fruits and veggies only), liquids only, no coffee, and a year of no meats. God taught me a lot about His character, He exposed much of my hidden sin and He performed many beautiful miracles during my fasts. However, my meat fast overlapped with my MMA training. I had one month left to go of my fast when I started training, and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to finish. But I knew God called me to do one year because I waited for His affirmation before I started. God had taken away my desire for meat three days before I dedicated myself to fasting a year. I shouldn’t have doubted God, though, because I was able to finish my last month, and my training wasn’t affected. I’ve experienced this phenomena many times – I call it Overlapping Levels. I’ve noticed that before God moves you to your next level, there is a period of overlapping that may push you to your limit and cause you to doubt. It feels like your circumstances can’t contain your expanding capacity – like a family who has outgrown their home. This short time of intense pressure is a good indicator that God is about to move you; so instead of doubting or complaining, just thank God for squeezing you into the next phase of His plan for your life.
God, thank You for letting me be aware of the unique movement of Your will. I don’t want to complain or doubt You, so knowing that a season of pressure foreshadows some kind of release or change, encourages me to maintain the course with joy. I pray that I experience many seasons of Overlapping Levels as I continue on the purpose You’ve created for me. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
