“I weep with sorrow; encourage me by your word” (Psalm 119.28 NLT).
During my MMA training, I felt like I was in a desert land of faith. At any moment, I could have given up and claimed defeat. When your capacity is stretched thin and you are walking a tightrope of trust, any little thing can break you and cause you to fold the whole situation up and throw it away. Thankfully, God knew I had reached my limit, so He sent His encouragement to me through His Word. The Bible is a Living Force that affects people, books, music and a multitude of other forms of communication that become a buffering system in our walks of faith. I would drive to my next training session with all my injuries unhealed and sore, and I would hear a Christian song on the radio telling me not to give up. I would lie awake at night because my body ached and I couldn’t move, and I would read a scripture about comfort and peace. I would question myself and wonder what I had gotten myself into, and my husband or my twin would have a verse of truth for me. I had surrounded my life with the power of God’s Word, and that is the only reason I made it through the fire that God called me to walk into. I believe many Christians are unable to fulfill God’s will for their lives because they are not buffered with God’s Word. We need to be reading it, listening to it and surrounding ourselves with people who are living it. The Bible is literally the breath of God pushing us to His best for our lives. Without it, we will never make it to our victories.
God, I know that Your Word, the Bible, is the source of Your holy power, influencing our lives and our thinking for Your higher purposes and eternal vision. I put my trust in Your Word, and I want to surround myself with its authority and inspiration. I want to buffer my life with Truth, so that I can accomplish the plans that You have for me. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
