“For God, who said, ‘Let there be light in the darkness,’ has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4.6 NLT).
I am amazed by how many Christians I discovered in the world of Mix Martial Arts. Through choice or life circumstance, they found themselves in the ring or the cage; and they each had a fresh outlook on Jesus and faith. One Christ-follower encouraged me greatly. He is a pastor of a church, but he is also a chaplain for fighters. Before a fight, he goes to every room and speaks truth and love to each fighter. I got to speak with him twice during the two most difficult times of my journey. He spoke to me while I cut weight the day of my weigh-in and just before my fight the following day. He had a perspective that I desperately needed. I didn’t know how to live out my faith in an actual MMA fight, but since he had already walked down that path, he could be a light of understanding to me. God loves and longs for all His children, and He will send His faithful servants to go get them. Since God also loves fighters, He has planted lamp posts in local rings and cages all across the globe. I finally got to see God’s grace poured into an area that I had never experienced before. I am blessed to have a fuller view of God’s love in action, and I am honored that He would trust me to be a light in the darkness for Him.
God, help me be a light to those who don’t know You. I know that You care for all Your children in all areas of life, and You will put a passion in Your faithful servants to go get them. I want to be one of the few who earnestly brings others into an awesome relationship with You. I won’t question Your methods. I just want You to send me. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
